It explains the effects of logging, mining, burning, and conservation efforts on the local indigenous populations that have lived there forever. The main characters are Maggie and her adopted daughter Olon who attempt to save the forests and their inhabitants from these modern forces that lack long-range sightedness of the irreversible damage they are doing to the Earth. Maggie s lover was murdered for his knowledge of the demise of the planet Earth which was deemed anti-establishment in description. She was pregnant with his son at the time. In an accident involving an airplane over the Amazon jungle, she lost her baby only to renew her search for him 10 years later and found him amid a tribe of Amazonian natives. She managed to return to the USA with him but unfortunately, he died because he could not adapt. She then returned to the Amazon and fought for the survival of her son s tribal people. Olon was found by Maggie wandering through the aftermath of a fire in the jungle caused by loggers. She takes her in and returns to the USA.
