Beautiful Thought Coins is a catalogue of the complete first edition of NFT art by artist Shaun Wilson, which addresses his interest in the relationship between bureaucracy, emotions, and currency. Through often sardonic and ironic titles, each artwork represents a digital coin in a specific state of emotion - some are bored, some are happy, and some are often depressed. The artist's work, as first released as individual NFTs on OpenSea in January 2022 minted on the Polygon blockchain as frozen metadata, speaks about the quirky relationship we have with money, the often ridiculous bureaucracy we find ourselves entangled in, and the philosophical idea of what would happen if money had a consciousness and started to behave ethically. In the tradition of British and American Pop Art of the 1960s, Beautiful Thought Coins is a unique catalogue of tongue-in-cheek NFT art that unpacks the very thought of what it means to be human caught in a strange world of databases, artificial intelligence systems and compliance requirements that no one quite knows how to use or why we even have to in the first place.
