Suzanne Santomieri is a wife, mother, and Cleft and Craniofacial Coordinator in North Carolina. She and her husband Nick have two beautiful boys, Nicholas and Dominick. Dominick was born in 2020 with a unilateral cleft lip and palate and a mild hearing loss. During that time, Suzanne was a Special Education teacher and went from advocating for her students in the classroom, to being a full time advocate for her own child. Although their family has been blessed with an amazing cleft team, the Santomieri family found themselves searching for others on this journey and constantly educating family and friends about Dominick and what the future would hold for him. This story is about a timeline of the first year of life for most babies born with cleft lip and palate, educating those that are unfamiliar, and a sweet brotherly bond between Nicholas and Dominick.
