A thriller and spy novel. The nine aircraft flew over the city around six thirty in the afternoon. The citizens suffered more than two hours of the longest bombing of the entire war. The enemy’s order was to cause maximum damage, and many residents were burned to death by fire or strafed by fighter planes. Dozens of bodies were strewn on otherwise peaceful city streets. In April 1937, former police commissioner Alfonso Ros is required by the high command to investigate the suspicious death of Damian von Veltheim, captain of the Legion sent by Hitler to help win the war. Among the intrigue, political conspiracies, and double agents, Alfonso conducts his investigation, accompanied by German Lieutenant Raymond Maurer and enigmatic Italian Delilah. Along the way, he discovers that he is not investigating murder in Spain during a bloody war, but an international conspiracy, which if successful would change the course of history as we know it—and which many are determined to continue hiding from the world at any price.
