English in Urgent Care Medicine is a textbook for medical students and doctors whose mother language is other than English, and who need to perfect their language skills and professional knowledge. The textbook will help the students understand professional texts, communicate with their colleagues in international teams and make themselves understood with English-speaking patients in common emergency situations. The first volume begins with the chapters concerning ethics and law in paramedic practice, emergency medical services and ambulance operation and communication system in EMS. Attention is paid to the well-being of the paramedic and health promotion and injury prevention. The following topics are: aproaches to patient assessment, therapeutic communication, history taking, techniques of physical examination, clinical decision making and documentation and record keeping. Further the textbook deals with pharmacology, venous access and drug administration, and airway management and ventilation. Included are also chapters about cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology, as well as about respiratory emergencies, allergies and anaphylaxes, The last units cover the topics of toxicology, haematology and environmental conditions
