The objective of the volume 38 of Recent Progress in Medicinal Plants is to present the third volume on essential oils together with miscellaneous scientific materials concerning mainly pharmacological properties of medicinal plants, hence the name: essential oils III and phytopharmacology. Its contributors are from 11 countries namely Brazil, India, Japan, Nigeria, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, USA and Uzbekistan. The volume is the amalgamation of two sections namely essential oils III and phytopharmacology. The first section has nine chapters that deals with essential oils. The first three general chapters are on antimicrobial, psychopharmacological properties and controlled release formulation strategies of essential oils. The next five chapters are on individual essential oils namely dennettia oil, mentha oil, thyme oil, boswellia oil and spearmint oil. The sixth chapter deals with cyclodextrin complexation of essential oils for improving bioactivity. The second section has eight chapters. The first chapter details the challenges on standardization of herbal medicines. The second chapter describes the role of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria in promoting growth and yield of active constituents of medicinal plants. The effect of olive oil on wound healing is dealt in the third chapter. The fourth chapter describes the implications of neem in treating diabetes mellitus. The fifth chapter presents chemical and pharmacological updates on Piper betel. Use of herbal medicine against microbial infection and resistance are explicated in the sixth chapter. The seventh chapter deals with the antiviral properties of medicinal plants. The last chapter elaborates the supply chain management of Indian medicinal plants. This composite volume is designed for professionals of interdisciplinary health sciences, food technology, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, agriculture, botany, medicine, therapeutics, traditional medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, aromatherapy, herbalism, medical and public health sciences, policy-makers and marketing and economic strategists.
