This is a story of a young man named Decio who emigrates from his country of Italy to seek a better life in America. Like many immigrants of his time in the early 1900s, he left his family and all that he had known to start a new life. His story is one of hope for him and his future generations. After all, the work in the factories was plentiful, and the streets were “paved with gold.” Through Decio’s experiences, we get a glimpse of what the immigrants did, how they lived, and how they interacted with one another. This is a must-read to fully appreciate the contributions of immigrants to the United States of America. We also get to see what wonderful opportunities are given to those that are given the opportunity to come to our great country.
