My parents brought him home on my birthday, and I could hardly contain my excitement when my father opened the door and led my mother inside. But my father told me something that still shocks me to this day.#3 I had a love of reading, and I would spend hours at the local public library. I also sold more Girl Scout cookies than any other girl in Sunland-Tujunga. I had no lessons, afterschool classes, or special performances, but the public school loaned me a violin and I dutifully practiced every night.#4 The death of David, my brother, set me on a path to think for myself and question authority. I wanted a different kind of life, one in which I was treated equally by men and women.
