A South Side Orange is a collection of poems and prose that unravels the seams of the frustrations of poverty and injustice, which both are heavily embedded in the foundations of the overlooked impoverished and less favored black neighborhoods like the west-sides and south-sides of communities all over the country. It's a poetry collection of this generation that focuses the perspective also on not only the issues and the roots of the problems of today, like racism, but it also shifts the perspective on ways of how to heal as a people and as a community and successfully thrive. This is a collection that is lined with heavy spiritual and evangelistic undertones that link back to social justice for a people as well as their soul.
A South Side Orange undoubtedly, poetically and prophetically wrestles head on with the struggles and the frustrations of poverty, the injustice of systemic racism, and ideas about faith and Christianity. With faith being the foundation and driving force for inspiration, A South Side Orange is a raw and honest look at pain and healing within the Black American community. A timeless poetry collection that colorfully discusses today's history-making moments and that is also inspired by the strength of a community like the South Side of Chicago.
