Though some might think these poems glorify war, Rudyard shows the true suffering the war was bringing to not only the soldiers on the front line but also the ordinary people who were caught in the crossfire. With his later poems being heavily influenced by him coping to come to terms with the grief of losing his only son John Kipling on the front line, in 1917.
