Xenia was abandoned in Brooklyn as soon as she was born; forced to endure a solitary upbringing in the care of Mrs. Bailey, a loving worker at her foster home. On the day of graduation, Paul— a military man from Virginia – falls in love with Xenia the first time he sees her, unaware that she lived a sheltered life as an orphan in a foster home; she is naive about everything from etiquette at parties to dating and romance, awkward and full of self-doubt.
