Deeva Denez captures the life of Vanessa Grant Lewis in her novel Uncaged: A Story of Faith and Survival. Uncaged addresses some hard hitting issues present in today’s society. Physical, mental, drug and alcohol abuse, infidelity, commitment and depression are just a few of the issues Vanessa must overcome in order to survive. Faith is the only thing that Vanessa can rely upon. Uncaged details the tumultuous evolution of protagonist Vanessa Grant’s married life. Vanessa and her husband enjoyed a ‘honeymoon’ period during the first six years of their marriage. However, all that changed.
During the next and last phase of their marriage, Vanessa was the victim of physical and emotional abuse, depression, financial hardships, and abandonment, Vanessa felt trapped-caged without hope of escape.
Eventually, Vanessa does escape and learns to love again. Her search for a new man is the subject of The Bearer of the Sign, the sequel.
