As one of China's Four Greatest Classical Novels, Water Margin was written at the end of Yuan Dynasty and beginning of Ming Dynasty. The whole book describes the story of gathering of 108 heroes in Liangshan Water Margin under the leadership of Song Jiang as well as their acceptance of amnesty and warfare afterwards. It's the first novel with captions for each chapter written in vernacular in Chinese history. The novel boasts of numerous versions, wide spread and extreme popularity, which has very profound impacts on narrative literatures in China and East Asia.
