First published in 1895, "The Wonderful Visit" is an essential work of fiction by the British writer H.G. Wells, the author of "The Time Machine."

"The Wonderful Visit" is not only the story of a fallen angel who cannot adapt to small-town English society, but a satirical treatment of Victorian England.
An other-worldly creature visits a small English village, and H. G. Wells uses humour and satire to convey some of the imperfections of Victorian society, as ‘angel’ and humans view each other with equal incomprehension.
The book is considered contemporary fantasy; but like most things Wellsian, that was a genre before his time.
