In olden times, and indeed today, a great many silly boys spend their money on sweets, pastries or ice lollies, or some such trash, and when they have eaten it, would they be the better for it? Why not at all.
Peter did not spend his money in such an idle and trivial manner; whenever he was given money, he bought food for his mind, instead of his belly, and as you will find out in the course of this book. Afterwards he reaped the benefit of doing this.
