Social stratification, refers to the division of a population into strata, one on top of another. There are, ofcourse, important differences between social stratification and geological stratification. By the term 'social stratification' we mean a horizontal division of a society into higher and lower social units. The human society, as such, is heterogeneous in nature. It is divided into various economic, social, political and religious classes. Unstratified classless society with 'real equality' is no more than a myth. The central focus of the book is on Systems of Social Stratification and Inequality; Caste, Class and Power, Caste as a form of social inequality. The book narrates new perspectives on social stratification and inequality which would enliven and create an interest in historians, sociologists, anthropologists, students, researchers and layman alike.
