Social work has its roots in the struggle of society to deal with poverty and the resultant problems. Therefore, social work is intricately linked with the idea of charity work; but must understood in broader terms. The concept of charity goes back to ancient times, and the practice of provide for the poor has roots in all major world religions. Welfare work consists of actions or procedures-especially on the part of governments and institutions- striving to promote the basic well-being of individuals in need. These efforts usually strive to improve their employment changes and many other aspects of their lives including sometimes their lives including sometimes their mental health. In many countries, most such aid is provided by family members, relatives, and the local community and is only theoretically available from government sources. The volumes will be found useful by all those administrators, social workers, policy makers etc., who are committed to ameliorate the social, cultural, economic and political conditions prevailing in society.
