Beschreibung

The governments of today are not able to transform and adapt to changes in the world around them, as demanded by their constituents. The nature of work, value of public goods, and the constant bombardment of crises are making the old bureaucratic structures obsolete.Agile Government is an emerging theme, that of government-wide reinvention for adaptiveness and responsiveness. It places the accountability, delivery, capture, design and creation of public value at the heart of the government. The concept of agile government is confused with terms like Agile Manifesto, agile governance, agility among others, and because of this, needs some unpacking. This book is a deep dive into this topic. It offers insights from the theoretical development of the topic of agile government, some lessons from government practices around the world, and ongoing academic and policy research. The project is spearheaded by the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, which is the first teaching and research institution in the Arab world focusing on public policy and governance. Contents:

The intricacies and unpredictability that the public sector faces are driving the need for governments to foster agility in their people, systems, and delivery. Traditional models of government are failing to keep up. Agility is an organization's ability to adapt quickly, run efficiently, and deliver better outcomes to citizens and stakeholders. Agility requires a change in the way that you think, lead, and work. If you are standing still, you are regressing. If you are not agile, everyone moves further and further ahead of you and leaves you behind. ,Agile Government: Emerging Perspectives in Public Management by the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government is a timely publication, which explores agility from concepts, systems thinking to future proofing and innovation. This should be a handbook for every senior government officer to dip into every now and again.' - Sonny Leong CBEChief Executive Civil Service College, The United Kingdom

'This is the book we were all waiting for: It brings together practical insights in the form of cases and analytical rigor, so that public administrators around the world can learn from the best on how to implement agile practices. It clarifies misunderstandings of what agile is and helps practitioners along the long path to transforming their organizations to respond quickly to changing needs of the societies they serve. ' - Prof. Dr Ines MergelProfessor of Digital GovernanceUniversity of Konstanz, Germany

'Agility in our lives and in governments is more important than ever if we are to find opportunities in disruptions and overcome the great challenges all societies face. This timely book provides vital insights into how governments can become agile.' - Prof. Ian GoldinProfessor of Globalisation and Development at the University of Oxford and the Director of the Oxford Martin Research Programmes on Technological and Economic Change Future of Work and Future of Development, The United Kingdomhttps://iangoldin.org/https://twitter.com/ian_goldin

'The global pandemic and climate emergency highlight the urgent need for interconnected and agile government and new models of partnership that focus on delivering public value at home and global citizenship abroad. Partnerships with other governments, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations are necessary to accelerate and scale systemic impact and address growing complexity. Though speed is of the essence, it is critical these alliances have a strong backbone of good governance, transparency, and accountability. If we are to leave no one behind, and achieve our ambitious Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, each government and each government employee must do their part. This book offers a useful overview of the importance of interconnected and agile government and a global perspective on some of the key challenges facing leaders in the public sector. Public sector employees at all levels can have influence and impact, and this book provides some compelling examples and recommendations on how to achieve this.' - Jane NelsonDirector of the Corporate Responsibility Initiative at Harvard Kennedy School and Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, The United States of America
