Beschreibung

The true story of L. Allen Hurd Jr. Private First Class, 101st Airborne Division, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, Headquarters Company, S-2 Section Scout. Told by his daughter, Denise Hurd.

How This Story Came To Be

In 2017 the doorbell rang and a stranger holding a book under his arm announced he was looking for Denise Hurd. To further the mystery, he stated he was sent by her father who died in 2009. This stranger turned out to be Mark Bando, the well-known historian for the 101st Airborne Division. He was sent by Denise’s father with instructions to share his WW II experiences with her after his death. Although Denise had talked with her father about his war time service, he was not able to share the details of actual combat. These stories are told here.

Much of the story is told first person through letters home and later recollections of the war as told to his daughter. The stories of actual heroism in battles were told by those who served alongside him. These were the stories he could not tell. The stories that haunted him as the years went by. The stories he sent a messenger to tell his daughter only after his death.

Told so that history newcomers can follow the action but includes enough new detail to interest the
WW ll buff.
