Beschreibung

Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2022 im Fachbereich Anglistik - Literatur, Note: 1,3, Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The dystopian series "Squid Game" is based on an anti-capitalist allegory. In this paper and to shed light on this allegory, the anti-capitalism and its implications are aimed to be approached through Althusser’s theories on ideology and capitalism. Consequently, the leading question of this paper is, as follows, to what extent can Althusser’s theories be applied to the Netflix series Squid Game and, hence, be considered anti-capitalist? In order to answer the stated question, capitalism in South Korea and its roots are portrayed firstly, followed by a broad and founded explanation of why Squid Game is considered a capitalist dystopia. Afterward, Squid Game is being approached through Althusser’s theories on ideology to properly provide a valid discussion on why that series resembles an anti-capitalist allegory. Lastly, a summarising conclusion ends this paper.
