He lay back weakly and focused his mind on the various forms that the clouds took on as they floated by. He was able to do this by realizing that there was nothing more he could, or actually wanted to do right then. Even so, his mind eventually shifted over to wondering about the boat he’d spent the last five months on, though just knowing he’d gotten the boat to safety made him feel better. Before long he could smell the sickening stench of the city as they approached. A little while later the boat he was on slowed even more and eased its way to a pier. Shortly after arriving at the hospital a male nurse pulled the bandages off his leg and he finally saw the full extent of the wound. Dried blood was caked in spots, and a pinkish fluid seeped from a few of the crudely sewn sutures. Using his left hand, he felt his nuts to make sure he still had two of them, and after finding both of them intact he consoled himself that things were not so terrible after all.
