The word 'mother' or 'mommy' is usually used loosely, especially among people of African descent. This is partly because our culture demands that we respect our elders. For the author of this book, she believes that to be called 'mommy' is an awesome responsibility and not to be taken lightly. To be called mommy means the individual should be ready to sacrifice like a true mother for the comfort of her children and family. A mother must be insightful, inspiring, intelligent, and resourceful. A good mother must have integrity and be ready to lead by example. To the author, a good mother should be courageous, not fearful, or easily discouraged in times of challenges. She must have a large heart and be able to absorb a lot without falling apart. The author believes God granted her the grace to possess such qualities in caring for so many children, especially those that found themselves under her roof, in her congregation, or in circles of influence like on the job or in the community. She also learned a few things along the way, which she will share with you in this book. This book also gives tips to those who want to help people, especially with accommodation or settling down in a new location or country. Such acts of kindness are never without a price tag, so be aware and prepared even as you carry your entire family along. The author encourages you to do it with your whole heart or don't do it at all. Study yourself, and know what you and your family can tolerate and accommodate-set guidelines for your house guests. Everyone may not be called to be Mother Teresa, but know your passion, and do not fail to fulfill your purpose in life. You will surely be blessed as you read this book.
