For two years now, after every new mysteriously missing person in the city is publicized, a search has been announced. But all in vain, no bodies or personal belongings of the missing have ever been found. The people, frightened and unable to find any rational explanation for all this, were left to ascribe absurd speculations to the atrocities committed.
Among those who disappeared was William Greenton’s mother, Katie. Soon, from a vain, fruitless search, William withdrew into the family business, hunting in the woods.
But one day, by happy coincidence, gold was found in the guy's house... the same gold that was engraved with the image of the winged creature so often present in his nightmares. After some investigation, the boy concludes that the exact same coins have been found in the homes of the families of the missing... including his best friend Ruthie. Bragging at every opportunity, the friend made it clear that he was receiving a reward for performing some kind of service. Trying to find a single logical explanation for the strange coins in the victims' families, William had no idea it was his family that was involved in this whole dark thing going on in their town….
