Journey into Darkness relates the irony and tragedy of twin brothers caught up in World War II on opposite sides and how Adolf Hitlers dramatic rise to power in a defeated Germany influenced a young American to join the German army. What circumstances caused the one twin to travel to Germany for graduate study even with the threat of war and then to remain after the outbreak of hostilities in a potentially hostile environment? What was his fate and that of his twin brother who joins the American army and narrates the story? Laced with thought-provoking interpretations and commentaries, the novel draws heavily on historical events, accounts of Germans who experienced the war firsthand and archival information provided by the cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Kiel and the National Archives of the United States.
